Just a burp.

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

In Sunday school we read Yertle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss. Yertle decided one day that he wanted to be the greatest turtle not just of his pond, but of all he could see. Being king he ordered the turtles to stand on one another’s backs, raising him higher and higher and letting him see more and more. Thousands of turtles high, Yertle was a very great king. Then one day Mack, a turtle on the bottom of the stack, burped, and Yertle’s kingdom crumbled.

We realized that basing our success on a stack of turtles wasn’t the best plan of action (kind of like the man who built his house on sand). We cut some turtles out of poster board and wrote on them some of the things we shouldn’t build our life on, for example, one turtle was “clothes,” another turtle was “popularity,” another “grades,” etc.

So what should we build our lives on? We went out and collected rocks (like the man who built his house on rock) and wrote on them some better things to build our lives on. Then we made an inuksuk, an Artic Inuit rock art form, out of our rocks.

cookies.jpg

As you know, this Sunday at 2:00 (after Confirmation class) we will be making Christmas cookies to give to a local nursing home(s).

The youth leaders will provide dough ingredients and frosting.  Your job is to bring decorations.  Sprinkles, dots, mini M&Ms, etc.  Be creative!  Bring some of your cool Christmas cookie cutters too!

Mmm sugar.

Smile, you’re on camera!

Don’t forget, this Sunday, December 3rd, we will begin to shoot some of the video for Confirmation Sunday.  You don’t have to wear dresses and three piece suits, but you should wear something that looks kind of nice.

See you then!

Dance, Dance, Dance!! :)

We all know our Youth Group loves to dance and we are all AMAZING dancers so we thought, why not have a a couple hours to do just that? So thats what a few members decided to plan, a Youth Group dance :) Heres some info:

When:  THIS FRIDAY DECEMBER 1st

Where: Youth Room

Time: 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

What to Bring: $2.00 for pizza, something to eat, a happy attitude, and your dancing shoes!

We decided that since there was a little incident at the Halloween party, if someone starting fighting with someone else, you can call your parents to take you home because you know my motto, Violence Isn’t The Answer.

Were going to try the phone tree to get this information out also.

**Since this ends at 8:00 and we do so much other things in this church, if you would like, you can join the other dance thats going on upstairs at 8:00, It would be a very nice gesture :)**

If you have any questions or can’t make it, just call me, Sara :)

Twisted!

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

The title of this post is your first clue to what type of food we are making in Sunday school this Sunday (11/26).  Stay tuned for more hints.

P.S. A HUGE thanks to Kyle for the suggestion!

P.P.S. Don’t forget to bring your fact/tidbit about Moses.  We will be christening our first youth-room-wall person by hanging (somehow) on him all the cool information we find.

P.P.P.S. Leave a comment on this post telling everyone what “P.S.” stands for and you will be the coolest person in the greater Binghamton area.  Officially.

Here are some fuzzy phone pictures from Youth Alive.  I’m not sure my phone is to blame–I think maybe all the bouncing to the band may have something to do with it…

Your leaders need help!  (As if you didn’t know.)  We e-mail you, myspace you, sometimes even instant message you, but sometimes a good, old-fashioned phone call works the best when we have information to share.  So I’ve e-mailed everyone a PHONE TREE.  I’m not posting it on the Web site since we are local celebrities and our fans would be calling us all the time.

On the phone tree is simply a list of everyone’s (so far) phone numbers.  So it’s a very straight tree.  One of the leaders will call the first person on the list.  Your duty (haha I said “duty”) is to call the person below you on the list.  If they don’t answer, leave a message and call the next person.  Keep doing this until you talk to a human being who can then call the next person :-)

So check your e-mail is all I’m sayin’.  Peace out.
